Breathing Disorders
‘The perfect man breathes as if he is not breathing’ Lao Tzu -00BC
We take approximately 30,000 breaths a day with an infant taking 33 breaths a minute and an adult 14 breaths a minute.
Breathing is an automatic process with air moving in and out of the lungs in response to differences in atmospheric pressure.
There are many causes of disturbance of breathing patterns which can produce a multitude of symptoms:
- Breathlessness
- Over-breathing
- Shallow breathing
- Feeling unable to breath
- Light headedness
- Reliance upon inhalers
Our physiotherapists can assist by assessing:
- Physical ability
- Trunk, rib-cage and spinal mobility
- Spinal and respiratory muscle control
- Pattern of breathing
Following a thorough assessment of your problems a treatment strategy, including exercises, will be discussed and implemented with you.
