Flexibility & stretching

Prevention is better than cure and we are always delighted to advise regarding all aspects of injury prevention including correct stretching exercises and techniques. Our Physiotherapists will be able to assess your personal requirements before making suggestions or designing a program based on your ability, age, body-type and sporting discipline.

Our Physiotherapists will show you how to stretch properly, what stretches or stretching techniques you should perform and can advise on different stretching styles including static, dynamic and neuromuscular. Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) involving muscle contraction and stretching is recognised as a valuable means of improving flexibility whilst both muscle ‘rolling’ and trigger pointing can both be effective if used correctly. We are happy to discuss these methods and other stretching programmes with individuals, coaches and teams and have experience implementing injury prevention programs in clubs and schools.

Some individuals are naturally more flexible than others and will maintain their flexibility with little effort however being too flexible is not without it’s issues and more information on this topic can be found on our hypermobility page.
